Philip Reeves

Phil is a retired full-time police Sergeant - working street patrol - and watch commander from the City of Irwindale in the LA metro-area. He started his law enforcement career as a graduate of the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department Academy.

In retirement, Phil joined LASD as a patrol chaplain assigned to serve the men and women of the Malibu/Lost Hills station and their families – as well as victims, victim’s families, witnesses as needed – those touched by trauma. 

He’s an inductee onto LASD's Chaplains’ Executive Committee as Associate Executive Chaplain - building recruitment, funding for and training of patrol chaplains county-wide, in response to our Agency's interfaith spiritual needs, and mutual aid to sister agencies throughout the state.

A Catholic lay-minister commissioned Eucharistic Minister as well as an ordained law-enforcement POST-certified Chaplain, Phil holds a Bachelor’s dual-major degree from Earlham College, a Master’s from Trinity University, and studied Clinical Pastoral Education at the Academy for Jewish Religion, Hillel UCLA. He is a candidate for his second Master’s degree, in Theology, at the University of Dallas in addition to Association for Clinical Pastoral Education accredited professional board chaplaincy certification, recognized nationally. 

Among other credentialed ministerial organizations, he is a proud member of the National Association of Lay Ministry; the National Association of Catholic Chaplains under the auspices of the US Conference of Catholic Bishops; International Conference of Police Chaplains; International Association of Chiefs of Police, Chaplaincy Section; Southern California Chaplains Association; International Critical Incident Stress Foundation; National Center for Chaplain Development; and Spiritual Directors International. 

As a retired LEO, he is a continuing member of the California Narcotics Officers Association; California Police Officers Association; Retired Peace Officers Association of California; PORAC; Police Officers Association of Los Angeles County; the National Fraternal Order of Police; and emeritus member of the Irwindale Police Officers’ Association.
